SECTION 2,

CONFIDENTIAL.

(No. 122.)

(Telegraphic.) P.

No. 1.

Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received June 16.)

YUNNAN frontier incident.

Please see my telegram No. 120 of the 9th instant.

Peking, June 16, 1908.

Among the demands put forward by the French Minister in connection with the shooting of the French soldiers is a claim for the extension to Hsian-fu of the Chengting-Taiyuan-fu Railway. This I learnt in the course of an interview to-day at the Wai-wu Pu.

The existing Anglo-French Railway schemes will in all likelihood suffer in consequence of this claim, which Chinese official circles will probably regard as a reversion to the policy pursued by the Powers immediately before the Boxer troubles of 1900.
