We beg Your Excellency therefore to place our protest on record.
In order that no misinterpretation shall be placed on our present action in despatching the steamers we hereby to declare that this does not constitute a submission on our part to their arbitrary ruling, and we therefore reserve to ourselves the right to claim from the Mexican Government for all damages, actual and prospective, and well as for all claims that shall be made against the Company by the passengers for re-imbursement of expenses and for compensation for loss of time, and also for all claims for the lives of those passengers that have died and for those that may die on the return voyage.
We further reserve to ourselves the right to cancel the contract entered into between this Company and the Mexican Government with full indemnization by the latter for such cancellation, as our passenger traffic being sole support, the present action of the Government precludes any further continuance of the service.
