417 Chinese immigrants who were rejected on account of
suffering from trachoma, and were re-embarked on board
the "Suisang", and found that they were all of them af-

your message of the 5th instant in which you inform me
that on your visit on that day you found 417 persons suf-
fering from trachoma. In spite of this the China Commer-

the honour to inform you that in accordance with the in-
rejected on account of suffering from trachoma, and once
more confirmed the fact that all of them were afflicted
with this disease.

From Salina Cruz. June 16th 1908. I have the
honour to inform you that on carrying out yesterday the
visit of inspection of the Chinese immigrants on board
the "Suisang" as ordered in your message of the 13th in-
stant to that effect, I found only 412 instead of 417 on
board. I have to-day verified this deficiency, and as-
certained that the five missing persons have absconded.
Investigations are now being held in view of which I
have ordered the said vessel to anchor two miles off the
Port until her departure has been decided upon, and have
prohibited all communication with her to avoid further
desertions. I have also ordered that no communication
be permitted with the "Landrat Schieff" until a proper
watch be assured in respect to that vessel.
