Sir:-
Upon receipt of your letter 21529/1908 of the 20th.
June, an enquiry was addressed to the Board of Trade as
to whether the draft Convention for the mutual protec-
tion of British and Japanese trademarks in China and
Corea could be communicated to the Governor of Hongkong
with a view to ascertaining the opinion of the commer-
cial community in that Colony.

A reply has now been received from the Board stat-
ing that there is no objection to this course, and I am
accordingly to forward to you herewith a copy of the
counterdraft Convention drawn up by the Board of Trade,
which has been sent to His Majesty's Ambassador at To-
kio with instructions to present it to the Japanese
Government forthwith.
