Translation.
This Agreement witnesseth Whereas the province of Hupei is now building a railway from Wuchang to Yochou and instructions have been received from H.E. the Viceroy Chao to engage Mr. H.St.George Moore as the engineer for the Wu-Yo railway, the fitting shop for the four provinces and the Wuchang Trading settlement, Mr. Moore is allowed to continue to superintend the works of the Hankow Waterworks and Electric Light Company and as regards the carrying out of the railway works the following terms have been agreed upon and duly sanctioned by H.E. the Viceroy Chao:-
The annual salary agreed upon for carrying out the railway and making all requisite arrangements for the four provinces' fitting shop and for the adjoining Settlement is £2,000 sterling per annum, which includes all the foregoing works and no further pay is to be given in connection with them. If in the Wuchang-Hankow district there should be engineering questions as to which the local authorities may wish to consult the engineer, they may do so without extra payment of salary through the Head Railway Bureau as intermediary. In addition to the salary there is payable to the engineer a monthly allowance of Taels 100. This sundry expenses allowance covers house rent, board, provision of instruments, servants' wages ET CETERA. The above salary and allowance are payable on the first of each Western month in twelve equal monthly parts either in sovereigns or in their equivalent in Hankow taels.
