SECTION 2.

Sir C. MacDonald to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received April 2.)

(No. 28.) (Telegraphic.) P.

Tokió, April 1, 1908.

I HAVE received your telegram No. 21 of the 28th ultimo respecting the proposed Convention for the mutual protection of trade-marks in China, and in reply to your question have the honour to report as follows:-

The Japanese Foreign Office state that trade-marks, even though not to be used in Japan, may under the existing law be registered.

I am given to understand that as soon as the Convention is signed, Consular Courts in China and Corea will be empowered to take cognizance of infringements, though under present law no action may be taken in cases of infringement of such marks.
