No.159.
PEKING.
2 April 1908.
With reference to your telegram No.60 of March 22,
I have the honour to enclose for your information copies
of correspondence relating to the question of the
consulting engineer for the Chinese section of the Canton-
Ko-lun Railway.
The matter has been under discussion between
Mr. Bland and the Board of Communications since January,
and the contents of the Board's last letter of March 6th
are still under consideration by the engineer-in-chief
of the Canton section, who is responsible under the loan
agreement for the proper construction of the line.
As stated in my telegram No.77 of March 25th,
Mr. Bland thinks it better that no step should be taken
at the Vaipoo pending the receipt of the engineer-in-chief's
views on the Board's letter, and so far as the British and
Chinese Corporation are concerned.
The Right Honourable
Sir Edward Grey,
Bart.
