There are Guard boats at intervals, all very much on the alert. All the men in the Guard boats and Gunboats are well armed and fairly well drilled.
From Kumchuk to Wangmun there are similar arrangements.
In the Gnae Mun district the Guard boats are few and the Gunboats larger on account of the more open water.
Canton Delta.
The Delta has not yet been visited: but I have the list of patrolling vessels and am satisfied that they are in place from the reports received from various places.
Briefly, the waterways through which steam boats and tows pass are patrolled in a similar manner to that obtaining in the West River.

All Guard boats have a pulling sampan into which men can jump and from which they can board vessels.
