Précis of the State of the Chinese Petrol Service in the North, East, and West Rivers, and Canton Delta.

North River.
Every five miles there is a Guard boat, these go up as far as the limits of navigation.
East River.
The same as the North River, and two gunboats working up as far as Seklung, where the railway comes through, the limit of navigation in winter.
West River (above Wuchow)
Guard boats stationed under the orders of the Taotal of Wuchow, every few miles apart.
West River (below Wuchow)
As far as the sea, Gunboats at intervals.
A large gunboat has a long beat and has under her some three or four small boats, which have short sections.
Particular attention is paid to the River just below Wuchow where there is a former nest of pirates at Dosing.
