This is of course a matter of grave concern to the

Government of Hongkong and we may remark that with a

view to securing uniformity in character of construc-

tion and equipment His Majesty's Colonial Office have

been and are desirous that the same Consulting Engin-

eers should be appointed for both the Colonial and

Chinese Sections of the Railway.

Sir John Wolfe Barry is we understand Consulting

Engineer for the Hongkong Government Railway and if as

we anticipated he and Mr. A. J. Barry who reported on

the Chinese Section had been appointed by the Chinese

to act for them the arrangement desired by the Colon-

ial Office and by ourselves would have been accomplished
