I am directed by the Earl of
Elgin to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter 2515/08, of the 25th of January in
which you forwarded a copy of a memorandum,
received from the German Embassy, on the
subject of the salaries of Government
officers in Hong Kong.
2. The earlier part of the memo randum
contain a number of inaccuracies, and it
would be difficult to amend it so as to
bring it into accord with actual facts.
