The German Government are anxious to learn whe-
ther the above statement is correct in all its details,
and also whether the British Government have already
adopted'or propose to adopt similar measures in res-
pect of their officials in China. If so, my Govern-
ment would be very glad to be furnished with as de-
talled a statement as possible concerning such meas-
ures as well as a table showing the salaries paid to
the categories of officials in question.
