to comply, as far as it is practicable to do so, with the
foregoing conditions.

It will be seen therefrom that the length of the
Breakwater would be reduced from 4,000 to 3,400 feet,
and
that the reclamation at the northern entrance and the
jetty at the southern entrance, respectively, remain as
shown on plan B which accompanied our Report of 3rd.
instant. The effect of this modification would be to
reduce the area of the proposed Harbour from 166 acres to
140 acres.

We may observe that the carrying out of the reduced
design would increase the sea disturbance
immediately in
front of Lot 89, by the formation of the re-entrant angle
between the south face of the Jetty and the wall of the
Lot, whilst by the adoption of the design shown on plan B
a cavity would be available for the absorption of such
sea.

It will be gathered from the foregoing that the
saving which would be effected by the reduction of the
