Remarks with regard
to the
section of the proposed Breakwater.

We have shown on sheet "C" annexed, a detail
cross section of the proposed main Breakwater, which we
would recommend for adoption. It partakes of the same
general character as the section which was prepared in
the Colony.
There are however differences in detail
which we consider important.
32.
To compare the new with the former section, it
may be stated that the slopes we propose are somewhat
flatter, and that a "barm" or benching, of heavy rubble
atone, is provided to more effectually secure the toe of
the pitching on the seaward side. Again the concrete
in

mass proposed in the Colonial section, has been
omitted, and concrete blocke, each of two tons in weight,
substituted, which will admit of close Jointed work, and
at the same time afford facilities for lifting and
repairs.
The rubble mound, in the main, corresponde
in the sizes and distribution of the material, with Mr.
Boulton's proposed section. The extent of the dredging
