Necessity for shelter.

The proposed shelter at Mongkokt sui is evidently
very much required, the accommodation provided in the
Boat Harbour in Causeway Bay being entirely inadequate
for the number of native craft that seek to use it.
There would appear to be no other shelter at present
available to which small craft can run, in anticipation
of the occurrence of typhoons, and thus the proposed Har
bour at Mongkokt sui would afford invaluable protection
and would unquestionably tend to the saving of many lives
and much property in floating craft. The utility of the
work therefore appears to be beyond question.
14. Inasmuch as typhoons at Hong Kong mostly begin
from the north-east, the position of the Shelter, being to
leeward, is well chosen from the point of view of accessi

bility.

Mr. Boulton has produced the records of typhoone
which occurred in July 1896, November 1900, August 1902,
September 1906 and July 1908.
