We feel sure that no slight to Mr. Ives was in His Excell-
ency's mind, but as it is so important, if the work is to proceed

Resident Engineer should be maintained unimpaired we may perhaps
express a hope that some step may be taken to remove any mis-
construction in the eyes of the public or those engaged on the
works.
