In connection with the appointment of Mr A.J. Williams and myself to inspect and report on the bridges and culverts constructed or in course of construction for the
Kowloon Canton Railway, British Section, I shall be obliged if you will furnish me with the following infor-
mation.
(1) Sections of the abutments piers and wing walls of the various bridges and culverts showing the
foundations as constructed.
(ii) List of contracts for bridges and culverts or
portions of same with dates of commencement and completion (if completed)
(iii) List of bridges and culverts in which any
settlement has come to your knowledge with a
statement of the amount of settlement and dates of
observations.
(iv) Whether you have been able in any case to dis-
cover any defective materials or workmanship which may have contributed to the defects which
have revealed themselves.
With regard to (i) it would be sufficient if
the drawings were produced at the time of our inspection
by the Engineer who is immediately supervising construction
work in any district and I would ask you to be good enough
to arrange for that officer to be in attendance with the
drawings and to give us any information that we may require
in
