consider in this case, that the Government has gone out- dide the power granted to them and mentioned in the letter of instructions sent to me from Crown Agents. I consider His Excellency's position with regard to his responsibility: for the railway a diffi cult one, but I do not consider

that the state of affairs warranted such measures as have

been adopted in the present case. I would threfore be

I glad if you would take such steps as you think necessary,

have not had time to draw out my report on the bridges as I

have been away at Taipo for the best part of last week. I

wish to delay this report as much as possible as I con-

sider no useful advice can be given till the result of

weighing bridge 4 has been seen.
