Kowloon Terminus.

Sir,

In continuation of our letter of the 20th of July

I have now the honour to enclose for the information of the

Secretary of State a copy of the Consulting Engineers'

report on the subject of the most suitable site in Kowloon

for the terminal station of the Kowloon Canton Railway.

2. It will be seen that the Consulting Engineers do

not agree with the Governor and his advisors that the site

proposed under scheme No.3 is the most favourable but they

recommend the site proposed under scheme No.2 (shewn on the

enclosed plar No. 2a) as offering greater advantages from

an engineering standpoint, while being equally convenient

from the point of view of the public.

3. They also recommend that whatever scheme may

ultimately be adopted, the necessity of having ample space

for any arrangement of terminal facilities which further

consideration may render desirable is of such importance

that, notwithstanding the additional expense, the Colonial

Government would he well advised to acquire the sites for

both schemes (i.e. the whole strip of land bounded by

Hacdonnel, Des feoux, Hiadle and Salisbury Roads) thus

leaving itself free to make any alteration or extension of

the
