I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter
of the 29th of July on the subject of the dismissal of Mr T.C.Lofthouse from his post as a Drainage Oversser in the Public Works Department of Hong Kong. In your letter of the 5th March last you state that as you were satisfied with Mr Bowdens statement, concerning Er Lofthouse you did not think it worth the expenses of a visit to Hereford to make further enquiries; but we pre- sume that you had some written testimony as to his work and conduct at Hereford after leaving Ir Bowden's service, and we shall be glad to have particulars of this.
