It is known to all our readers that there is at the present
time a considerable feeling of unrest in consequence of the
banishment of certain prominent men who are believed to have
taken an active part in the Boycott which led to riots in this
City. We have heard it rumoured that the Government intends
to banish many more persons, some say even 100. We are able
to state on very high authority that these fears are groundless
and that the rumours have been instigated by evil disposed per-
sons. The Government has no intention of banishing any more
persons provided that the causes which led to their present act-
ion cease and that peaceable and well disposed merchants are
+
no longer subject to threats of ear-cutting, and even of death,
and of disturbance of their trade.
