Am informed that Wise does not return.
recommend Gompertz as puisne judge unless Sercombe-
Smith is a candidate. in that case I recommend Smith
and submit Gompertz succeed Smith. Both officers
are well qualified in Chinese a knowledge of which
in the puisne judgeship is very desirable see my
