With reference to the new Colonial

Office Rules Nos. 76 and 77, I have the honour to state

that an Officer of this Government has recently been called

upon to discharge at the same time the duties of two

distinct offices neither of which was his own, while being

relieved by another Officer of the duties of his own

office, and I shall be glad to know what salary should be

allowed to Officers in such cases

(a) when the offices are distinct and separate

offices in different Departments:

(b) when the offices do not stand to one another

in any intimate relation of superiority and subordination,

as in the case of two Magistracies:

(c) when offices are in an intimate relation of

superiority and subordination.
