I have the honour to request that Your

Excellency will be good enough to lay my name before the

Secretary of State for the Colonies as a candidate for promotion

in the legal branch of the service either in the Eastern

Colonies or in the West Indies.

A record of ry service is given at pagos

224 and 225 of the Hongkong Civil Service list from which it

appears that out of my 18 years service I have been erployed

for approximately 114 years on the legal side as follows:-

In the Straits Settlements 24 years.

1899 June 23rd. } As Police Naristrate: Kember and Fresident

acting. I was called to the "helish Bar in Tarch, 1899. I need

not say that I shall be extremely grateful for any favourable
