sir,

Goverment House 001 08.
Hongkong, 25th.July,1908. 417
I have the honour to enquire whether you will be good enough to favour me with an estimate of the cost of installing and maintaining for 3 months in each year a Wire- -less Telegraph Station on the Pratas Shoal which would be able to communicate with the Naval Wireless Station at Hongkong, and whether in the event of such an installation being made on the Pratas communication with it would be permitted through the Wireless Station at Cape D'Agipar.
The object in making the installation would be to obtain weather reports with the view to forecast- -ing typhoons; but it is possible that the Station might be of value to His Majesty's Navy and I shall be glad of your observa- -tions on the latter point.
I shall at the same time be obliged if you will inform me whether His Majesty's Ships could render this Government assistance in communicating with the Station during its occupation for purposes of maintaining the Wireless Tele- -graph gear.
Excellency
The Commander-in-Chief,
China Station.
