IMAMIWATION OF BRIDGES
In reply to your letter No.4690/1908 I have the honour
to make the following remarks.
Paragraph #:
The drawings of Pridgen 4, 6 and 7 wore
sent in my Ceneral Letter No.31 dated 10th January 190".
and for Bridge No.2 in letter 50.38 dated 7th September 1907
I did not send any description as to the nature of the founds
as horings had not been taken at the time. I only sent the
drawings as a guide for designing the iron-work.
Then foundatio is are excavated there is no tice to com.
sult them as the concrete has to he put in at once.
Faragraph 3.
The contractors did say that the founda-
tion should he piled but this was only to shield themselves
as I had to write to them vorg strongly with rom rd to the
careless way the foundations were being excurated.
As regards the report on the bridges there are three main points bearing generally on the subject which I fel
justified in putting forward at this stage.
1st. Faving once made a report suggesting that cortala
Bridges should be pulled down it would be very hard for any committee to do otherwise (especially as one of the committee was the original enzinser who condarmed the
Trides)
