Newman I know nothing about and have never
Langton Wilkinson I have travelled twice
with on the German Mail going home and coming out again the
same year 1901 I think.
He was then in a business in Kobe - I
imagined with the Kobe Wilkinson who, I thought, was his father
or uncle, but on this point I now fancy I was mistaken.
I think he was really with the German Bank.
He left the Bank some years ago and joined a firm, English,
connected with engineering

the name I forget, but should know,
if I heard it. This firm he told me he left - why he did not
explain and was on his way home when he heard of a chance to
make a good thing as he thought out of shell to be obtained on
an Island somewhere in this neighbourhood. The name I forget,
it might be Pratas.
He has no money he borrowed the amount of
his hotel bill from me and I have not seen him since and dont
expect to.
He drinks much more than is good for him
and I guess that is the reason he is out of a job, for he does
not lack ability.
I make him a thoroughly unsatisfactory
individual to have anything to do with I dont trust him a

bit.
He was educated in Germany I believe and
certainly speaks and writes German as well as he does English.
This is all I can think of about him.
