Referring to your letter of January 2nd.,

1907(7410/04/C.5.0.), transmitting copies of two petitions from

Chinese residents of Hongkong, concerning compensation for

the loss of their sons through the sinking of the German Steam

-ship "China" by a Russian mine, and to my predecessor's reply

thereto dated May 10th. last, I have to inform you that I have

again taken the matter up with the authorities, and expect to
