With reference to Lord Elgin's
Despatch No. 74 of the 10th. of last April, I have the
honour at the request of the Chief Justice to forward to
Your Lordship a copy of his letter, dated the 23rd.
ultimo, and of my reply, dated the 9th. instant, concern-
-ing the advice given by His Honour to the Executive
Council with regard to the carrying out of capital punish-
-ment on women.
