With reference to my Despatch
No. 135 of the 15th. May last in which I asked Your Lord-
-ship's covering authority for an expenditure of $8,600
voted by the Legislative Council to settle a claim for
damages in respect of injury to certain houses, Nos. 88 -
92 (even numbers) Reclamation Street, Yaumati, on Kowloon
Marine Lot No. 30, I have the honour to lay the following
facts before you.
2.
The houses in question stood on
one of three lots, numbered 29, 30 and 31, bearing the
designation of Marine Lot, which has been held in the case
of similar lots in other parts of the Colony to carry with
it certain rights over the foreshore and sea-bed situated
opposite such lots. The lots were sold in 1875 without
regard to any general scheme of reclamation for the local-
-ity in which they are situated.

THE EARL OF CREWE,
