I have the honour to inform Your

nolosure 1.

Lordship that on the 16th. April, 1906, Messrs. Butterfield

and Swire applied for an area of land at Quarry Bay, shown

on the attached tracing, tinted pink and described as

Shaukiwan Inland Lot 408 and Shaukiwan Marine Lots 2 to 10,

with the intention of erecting houses upon it for the

native workmen, who will be employed at their shipyard; and

that in due course they purchased these Lots at auction on

the 24th. December, 1906, for $34,482, under the conditions

of sale of which I enclose a copy.

The area so purchased adjoins

Quarry Bay Marine Lot No. 2 Extension, for which, under

the instructions contained in Mr. Chamberlain's Despatch

No. 12 of the 4th. January, 1901, a lease of 999 years

has been granted; and, during the negotiations for the

purchase of the Lots sold in December, 1906, Messrs.
