gir,
I have the honour to enclose a statement of
the work that has been accomplished by my Council and of the
support accorded to us by the different Education Departments
and Governments of the Empire.
In regard to our past work we claim that
the League has established for itself a place in the educational
development of our Empire, having brought into touch for the
first time the Mother Country with the Education Departments of
the States and Provinces of all the great Sister Countries of
our Empire and also with those of the Crown Colonies and
Dependencies. The League had the honour of holding in May, 1907,
the first Conference on Education to which Representatives were
appointed both by the Imperial and by the other Governments of
the Empire.
It is the desire of my Council to continue
to develop this work which they have initiated. The bond which
has been established between the Education Departments of the Empire should, they submit, be maintained on an Imperial basis, recognised and supported by the Imperial Government.
To many of the Education Departments,
*
amongst which may specially be mentioned four Education Depart- -ments of South Africa, the League is the officially-appointed Agent in the United Kingdom. Its work has been recommended by the Colonial Office to the Governments of all the Crown Colonies, and its schemes have received general acceptance from all the Education Authorities of the Empire.
In order still further to regularise the
