naturally desire to know whether the limits of time during which
the Judges can sit daily have been reached, and whether any re-
-arrangement of the work is not possible by which the Chief
Justice could be relieved of excessive work.

In this connection I find that the Officer
Administering the Government before my arrival made the suggest-
-ion that the Fuisne Judge should permanently take all the
Bankruptcy work, and Mr. Wise expressed his willingness to do
so, but reported that Your Honour "objected to the proposed
arrangement". I find also that Mr. T. Sercombe Smith when
Acting Puisne Judge when Sir John Carrington was Chief Justice
undertook the Probate work and sometimes the Admiralty work.
There appears to have been no difficulty at that time in meet-
-ing the current work, and Mr. T. S. Smith gave it as his
opinion that the Summary work would not be dislocated were due
notice given of any Original or Full Court work for which the
Puisne Judge might be required, provided of course that 2
Judges are not required to sit on ordinary heavy cases in
Original Court. Other proposals suggested were that the public
examination in Bankruptcy should be taken by the Registrar or
Senior Deputy Registrar and the Chief Justice or Puisne Judge
receive the Registrar's report and make his order upon it, and
that the Chief Justice and Puisne Judge should take the Criminal
