In this connection I find that the Officer

Administering the Government before my arrival made the suggest-

-ion that the Fuisne Judge should permanently take all the

Bankruptcy work, and Mr. Wise expressed his willingness to do

so, but reported that Your Honour "objected to the proposed

arrangement". I find also that Mr. T. Sercombe Smith when

Acting Puisne Judge when Sir John Carrington was Chief Justice

undertook the Probate work and sometimes the Admiralty work.

There appears to have been no difficulty at that time in meet-

-ing the current work, and Mr. T. S. Smith gave it as his

opinion that the Summary work would not be dislocated were due

notice given of any Original or Full Court work for which the

Puisne Judge might be required, provided of course that 2

Judges are not required to sit on ordinary heavy cases in

Original Court. Other proposals suggested were that the public

examination in Bankruptcy should be taken by the Registrar or

Senior Deputy Registrar and the Chief Justice or Puisne Judge

receive the Registrar's report and make his order upon it, and

that the Chief Justice and Puisne Judge should take the Criminal
