been liable if they had been executed within the Colony. The Bank Notes now referred to are not bank notes within the meaning of the Act and they are presumably Promissory Notes and would come under that heading but their value in the majority of cases beung under $10 they therefore escape taxation on the latter ground.
My Committee therefore see no objection to steps being taken to stop the circulation in the Colony of Bank Notes other than those duly authorised, provided that the method adopted will avoid interference with the negotiation of notes of other countries and Currencies which find their way into the Colony by Travellers and in the ordinary course of trade.
