worse off toan had I continued to remain in the Imperial Service,

six years ago, #bere. I had every reasonable prospect. of substanig

promotion to toe rank of Postmaster waich. I aave no doubt. I would

nave attained in due course.

(1) In continuation of my application of the 6th June and toe

reply No. 183 of the 1st August: last, I beg most. respectfully

to ask that my salary be increased, it being out of all proportion

for.the performance of the onerous and responsible duties of

Superintendent of Mails. I would bag to point out that the Accountant

at this office, who is an Eurasian and a locally appointed man has

recently been placed on a salary: from 8360 to £450 per annum wphle

I am in receipt. of from 8300 to £345. This officer is junior to me

naving barely 20 years anile I have nearly 25 years service.

I can be contented. to remain bere without, prospect of promotion and in receipt of a smallee salary than is being paid to Cucasian clerks and locally appointed men in this Department, who are junior to me in service, and who can live here at a cheaper rate than an

European.
