The General Managers,
Penin. & Oriental S. N. Coy.,
Gentlemen,
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of ( on ship's
arrival in dock hare your letter dated 12th instant addressed
to Marseilles re instructions as to Mr Loder 2nd Saloon
Passenger from Hong-Kong and now beg to inform you that his
brother met the ship and bringing an attendant with him has
taken charge of Mr Loder and I have handed to him the Colonial
Office Communication authorizing Mr Loder's detention in the
West Ham Union if so desired. In Mr Loder's present condition
this seemed best as he certainly would not have accompanied
anyone from the ship to any Union as he quite hoped tojoin
his brother and his brother rather desired his going with him
for the time being. Mr Loder is quite quiet and perfectly
harmless and has been so throughout the voyage. No one from the
Union met ship on arrival.
I remain, Dear Sirs,
Your obedient servant,
(Sa). G. W. Gordon.
Commander.
