The tonnage of shipping entered and cleared was 2,391,986. in hich the British flag covered 792,000 (one-third), other for ign lags 1,113,070. and the Chinese 486,794.
Enough has I think been said to show that Tientsin is entitled (y its commercial importance to large consideration; and by political considerations to exceptionally (if necessary) favourable rather than unfavourable treatment. For it must be remembered, in connection with the question of prestige, that Tientsin stands practically at the portals of the Aerðtal - being the port of Peking.
