With reference to your note of the 11th ultimo,
respecting the appointment of Senor Don Buenaventura
G. Seosne as Consul-General of Peru st Hongkong, with
Jurisdiction in all the British possessions in Asia,
I have the honour to state that it would appear, from
the terms of this gentleman's Commission, that the
Consular district assigned to him includes His Majes-
by's Indian possessions, in which Consuls of Peru
elready reside respectively at Calcutta and Rangoon,
In this case I beg leave to explain that, in ac-
cordance with an invariable rule, the jurisdiction
accorded in Exequaturs granted by His Majesty to For-
eign Consular Officers in His Indian possessions is
limited to the actual ports at which such Consular
Officers reside. In the present, instance, His Majes-
ty'e Secretary of State for India, to whom I referred
