Foreign Office, October 12, 1907. I AM directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you herewith copy of a despatch which has been received from His Majesty's Minister at Peking with regard to the increase of the Chinese garrisons on the Peking-Shanhaikuan Railway and the retention of a body of British troops at Tong Shan.*

I am to express the hope that the British garrison at Tong Shan may not be withdrawn without the concurrence of Sir J. Jordan,
