WITH reference to my despatch No. 301 of the 30th July last, I inclose a copy of a letter from the Board of Trade,* containing the observations on the points raised by the China Association in their letter of the 25th July last on the subject of the desirability of coming to an Agreement with the Japanese Government for the mutual protection of British and Japanese trade-marks in China.
On the 31st May last addressed a despatch,+ a copy of which is inclosed, to Sir C. MacDonald, requesting him to approach the Japanese Government with a view to the conclusion of such an Agreement.
I inclose, for your information, a copy of a further despatel to Sir C. MacDonald,‡ inquiring how the matter now stands, and whether the negotiations for the proposed Convention are progressing satisfactorily.
