sir,
With reference to my telegram No.136 I now have the
honour to enclose copies of the latter which I addressed
to the Wai Yu Fu on July 10 respecting the piracy of the
British launch Chi Chang (or K1 Cheung) near Canton,
and of Mr. Hansfield's despatchNo.83 of July 18th deg-
cribing this occurrence,
It will be seen from this enclosure that the attack
van carried out by armed pirates, four of whom were on
board in the guise of passengers and who assumed control
of the launch, As soon as they had done so, they were
joined by six confederates who came alongside in a boat
and set about pillaging the launch.
They were pursued by a Chinese gunboat, but escapod,
after running the launch into a shallow greek.
