RECE

REC 21 AUG 07,

(No. 100.) (Telegraphic.) P.

Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey,-(Received June 7.)

Peking, June 7, 1907. IN reply to your telegram No. 61 of the 6th instant, I have the honour to inform you that I am making telegraphic inquiries of His Majesty's Consuls at Amoy and Swatow, from whom no reports have as yet been received.

According to a telegram dated the 30th ultimo from His Majesty's Consul- General at Canton, disturbing accounts of the state of the province were appearing in the newspapers. The Kuangtung and Fukhien Viceroys had, however, both dispatched troops to the disturbed districts, and a telegram from the Admiral and Taotai at Swatow had reported the dispersal of the rebels.

Nevertheless the Wai-wu Pu told me yesterday that they were very anxious about the state of affairs at Kuangtung.
