I have received your despatch No. 458 of December

29th.lust respecting the recovery of debts incurred in

Hongkong by natives of China who abscond to the mainland.

I now trunandt to you copies of correspondence

with the Colonial Office, to whom was referred the aug-

retion of His Majesty's Consul-General ub Cunton

for

The conclusion between the Hongkong and Canton Covern-

ments of som: reciprocal arrangement in regard to ques-

tions of bankruptcy.

I shall be glud if you request Mr. ansfield to en-

deavour to induce the members of the Commercial Bourd

at Canton to take the initiative in proposing to the

Chinese authorities a scheme for the appointment of w

official receiver in Canton City who would work in

agreement with the official receiver in Hongkong.
