In reply to your letter
of the 2nd instant
obytransmitting copy of a despatch from the Governor
of Hong Kong respecting a claim for consequential
damages on account of the piracy of the Steamship
"Sainam", I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to
transmit to you herewith for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies copy of a letter
which has been addressed to the China Association in
reply to their representations in regard to this mat-
ter.
I am to add that His Majesty's Minister at Peking
has been informed that the representations of the
China Association and the Hong Kong Chamber of Com-
merce have been carefully considered by Sir E. Grey,
but that it has been decided not to support the claim
