Gen
With reference to your letter No.23280/07 of 5th July, enclosing a copy of a despatch from the Officer Administering the Government of Hong Kong with regard to. the dismissal of Mr T.C.Lofthouse from his appointment as Drainage Overseer and the selection of his Successor, I have the honour to report that we called upon Mr Lofthouse to refund to us the cost of his passage, and the advance of salary given to him prior to his departure. Our letter was returned to us by Mr A.J.Lofthouse, the brother of the above, who states that he does not know his brothers address in
England and hardly thinks that he will at present return to this country as he has not the means to do so.
2. We await the Secretary of State's instructions
in the matter.
