man recommended, viz £50 a month, it is undoubtedly high, but we understand that the man will not accept any less remuneration and we are of opinion that in the case of a work of so much importance as the tunnel any necessary amount of salary to secure a thoroughly competent man is fully justified and will be money well spent. We therefore beg to support the Consulting Engineer's selection and would recommend that we should be authorised to engage and send out Mr W. Waite as early as possible.
