The results of the mechanical tests show that the metal is a Wrought Iron of fair quality, and the figures of the analysis compare favourably with the standard analysis given in red ink alongside.

In due course my local Inspector (Mr. R.J. Preston) tested every individual pipe under the specified pressure of 1,500 lbs. per square inch. I regret to say that Mr. Preston died in August 1904, and I am therefore unable to refer this complaint to him. He reported to me on the completion of his inspection of these Pipes as follows:-

"I beg to report having inspected, tested and passed the Tubes for above, viz:-

Tons Cwt Qrs Lbs. 206 - 5" Tubes approximate 19 10 0 0 212 - 6" 21 10 0 0 41

The Tubes have all been tested to 1,500 lbs. per square inch.
