I am directed by the E of B to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of July 5th and to inform you that you have been passed as physically fit for service and have accordingly been selected for appointment as First Assistant at the Hong Kong Observatory on the terms communicated to you in the letter from this department of the 18th of June.
2. The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty state that they propose to allow your resignation to date from the day preceding your embarkation for Hong Kong and that they have authorised the Astronomer Royal at the Cape Observatory to grant you such leave as you may require to enable you to make the necessary preparations.
3. As soon as you have settled the date at which you can leave the Cape for Hong Kong you should inform the Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong of the exact day on which you may be expected to arrive in that Colony. You will be entitled to half salary from the date of embarkation and the...
