6th June 1907.

I am commanded by the Army Council to forward

the accompanying copy of a letter, and its enclosure,

received from the General Officer Commanding, South

China, suggesting that the Naval telephone line from

D'Aguilar to the main Signal Station, H.M. Dockyard,

Hong Kong, should be maintained by the War Department,

and to acquaint you, for the information of the Lords

Commissioners of the Admiralty, that the proposed main-

tenance has been approved free of cost for one year.

At the end of that period, unless the amount

is found to be small, the Army Council propose to ask

their Lordships to contribute towards the cost of maintenance.
