Referring to the 5th paragraph of Sir Matthew Nathan's despatch No.169 of 23rd June, 1906, and to the concluding paragraph of my despatch No.260 of 14th October last on the subject of the provision of funds for railway construction during the year 1908, I have the honour to forward a statement by the Colonial Treasurer from which it will be seen that a sum of $3,480,000 made up as follows will probably be required:-

i. purchase of Blackhead's Lots 600,000 ii. purchase of land for Kowloon Passenger Station 300,000 building 50,000 iii. purchase of land for workshops 300,000 buildings 30,000 iv. construction 2,200,000 $3,480,000
